Beaches on Sentosa Island, Singapore, closed due to an oil spill

Reuters said in a report that the beaches on Sentosa Island in Singapore were closed on Saturday after an oil leak from a nearby shipping station spread to the tourist resort south of the city-state.

An oil slick has been spotted. Cleaning process is in progress. Please stay out of the water,” read a sign posted on the beach.

A warning on Sentosa's website said the waters of Tanjung, Palawan and Siloso beaches were closed for cleaning and swimming and marine activities were not permitted.

The oil spill spread from the Pasir Panjang terminal, located less than ten kilometers from the island popular with tourists and locals, after a Dutch-flagged dredger collided with a parked Singapore-flagged ship on Friday afternoon.

The Maritime and Ports Authority of Singapore said on Saturday that oil slicks had been spotted off the Pasir Panjang terminal and along the beaches of Tanjung, Palawan and Siloso. It said it deployed 16 vehicles to control the oil spill
