Aurora-class car carrier, which will be the largest of its kind, began its first sea trials last weekend and is scheduled to spend 10 days in the ocean east of Shanghai to conduct testing and ensure that all its equipment is ready.

The car carriers were built in China for Hoegh Autoliners for sea trials before delivery and entry into service in August. With a capacity of 9,1000 TEU, the vessel will be the largest to date and will be powered by a multi-fuel engine using LNG and ready for methanol or ammonia.

The shipbuilding project began in 2021 and was later extended from four to eight ships, all of which will be built by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co. (CMHI).
